| Why did you choose the name verē? |
The name verē is derived from the Latin word meaning "real, authentic". At verē, we celebrate chocolate in its purest form by starting with the best single-varietal beans, maintaining a high cocoa content, and refusing to mask the real taste of chocolate with sugars, milk powders or other additives.

| Why do you say you have a fresh take on chocolate? |
First, we feel we are approaching chocolate in an entirely fresh, new way by equally prioritizing taste, health and ecological concerns in the creation of our products. Next, we won’t use chemical preservatives in our confections, resulting in an ultra-fresh product to be enjoyed in its prime, not after sitting on a shelf for a questionable amount of time. Lastly, we are a new, innovative company with a fresh attitude that is unafraid to break with tradition in order to redefine a classic category for the modern consumer.

| What does verē chocolate offer that no one else does? |
We believe we have created a truly evolved chocolate with universal appeal. Our chocolate is not only delicious, it is good for your body, good for your conscience, good for the environment and good for the soul. By minimally sweetening our chocolates with a proprietary blend of natural sugars that do not significantly spike your blood sugar, our products may be enjoyed by those individuals whose dietary restrictions have previously prevented them from enjoying chocolate or confections (though we do encourage moderation.) In addition, all of our chocolates are gluten-free and many are vegan - including a vegan coconut brownie!

| Why did you choose to open your factory in Manhattan? |
We built our factory in Manhattan because we wanted to capitalize on the amazing talent and energy of this city. Having both our corporate offices and factory in Manhattan allows us to oversee the quality and integrity of each and every product.

| Why do you say you make Everyday Artisanal chocolates? |
verē strives to redefine chocolate for the modern consumer. Currently, there are essentially two categories of chocolate: bars (for everyday) and confections (for special occasions). verē offers a new way to enjoy the health benefits of dark chocolate everyday. With our Everyday Artisanal line of chocolates (which includes bars, brownies, clusters and wafers) you can enjoy artisanal-quality confections that offer the sophistication of a truffle, without all of the added cream, sugar and calories – and without the guilt. Our Everyday Artisanal chocolates are minimally sweetened, have over twice the antioxidants of standard dark chocolate and have healthy additions such as nuts, seeds, grains, etc. Moreover, they are handmade chocolates in beautiful packaging at a price that is affordable, making them a luxury that can be enjoyed everyday.

| Does verē chocolate support sustainable agriculture? |
verē strongly supports sustainable agriculture. Like coffee, chocolate has the potential to be either an environmental enemy or friend. The current practice of clearing the rainforests to increase crop production not only destroys delicate ecosystems, but is leading to wide-ranging problems with global impact. Since our chocolate grows best under the lush canopy of the rainforest, it provides a cash crop that discourages clear cutting. As we see it, you can either be a part of the problem or part of the solution. We want to be a part of the solution.

| Why cocoa beans from Ecuador? |
We use a special heirloom bean grown only in Ecuador that requires less sweetening and delivers twice the antioxidants of regular dark chocolate. All too often, cocoa beans are cultivated in cleared fields instead of the lush understory of the rainforest, where they thrive best. Sourcing our beans from Rainforest Alliance certified cooperatives in Ecuador allows us to safeguard the Ecuadorian Rainforest and support local farmers that provide us with their responsibly harvested, sustainably grown and pesticide-free beans. Not to mention that these beans provide an intense bouquet of flavors for our chocolates, putting us on par with some of the world’s best chocolatiers.

| Is verē chocolate organic? |
Our chocolate is not certified organic, but rather is grown without pesticides under the canopy of the Ecuadorian Rainforest. Our cocoa beans are sustainably grown and responsibly harvested on Rainforest Alliance certified cooperatives. Additionally, we strive to use organic, all-natural and/or sustainable products wherever possible (especially nuts, cream, butter and eggs).

| Is chocolate good for you? |
Chocolate is not a low fat food and should be eaten in moderation as part of a healthy diet. However, the evidence supporting the health benefits of minimally processed dark chocolate gets better every day. Studies have shown that dark chocolate in particular may lower high blood pressure, contribute to cardiovascular health, promote blood flow, reduce the risk of blood clots, have a beneficial effect on cholesterol levels, and improve your mood and sense of well-being, amongst other things. In addition, dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants (and verē chocolate contains double the antioxidants of standard dark chocolate!), contains a variety of vitamins and minerals, including iron, calcium, potassium, zinc, copper, mangenese, A, B vitamins, C, D and E, and is the highest natural source of magnesium.

| Why do you only make dark chocolate? |
Dark chocolate has a rich flavor and is better for you than milk or white chocolate. It has the highest concentration of cocoa solids, and therefore, of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Milk chocolate can have as little as 10% cocoa content and can be loaded with sugar, preservatives and other fillers. White chocolate has no cocoa solids in it whatsoever, and is comprised mainly of cocoa butter, sugar and milk powder. Our chocolate has a high cocoa content that ranges between 75%-100%, resulting in an intensely rich and deeply satisfying flavor for true chocolate lovers.

| Is your chocolate sugar free? |
verē chocolates are minimally sweetened. We have replaced sucrose (ordinary table sugar) in our chocolates with a proprietary blend of natural sweeteners that does not adversely affect your health and well-being as sugar does. Sucrose has been proven to spike blood sugar levels, leach vitamins and minerals from your body, and may compromise your immune system, stimulate the appetite, create a cycle of addiction and signal to your body to store fat, amongst other things. Our sweeteners do not significantly raise blood sugar levels, cutting that detrimental cycle off at the source.

| What do you use to sweeten your chocolate? |
Our chocolates are sweetened with a proprietary blend of wholesome ingredients, including inulin and crystalline fructose, a natural sugar found in many fruits and vegetables that, unlike sucrose, does not spike blood sugar levels. Given that fructose is naturally sweeter than sucrose, verē chocolate contains considerably less sugar than comparable dark chocolates. In fact, a serving of our chocolate contains far less fructose than an apple! It was also important for us to avoid the use of artificial/chemical sweeteners, as well as the sugar alcohols being used in many of today’s "sugar-free" and "low-carb" sweets, all of which may cause a multitude of health problems.

| Is your chocolate suitable for diabetics? |
verē chocolate may be suitable for many diabetics, though we would always caution you to check with your doctor before consuming our products. Not only is verē chocolate minimally sweetened, but the blend of natural sweeteners we use (including inulin and crystalline fructose) has been specifically formulated to prevent significant spikes in blood sugar levels. In addition, studies have shown that chocolate may improve insulin sensitivity. For diabetics (or anyone!) in search of a high quality, low sugar chocolate that is totally natural and does not contain any artificial sweeteners or polyols, verē chocolate may just be the answer to your dreams.

| Does your all-natural chocolate have a shorter shelf life? |
Our all-natural chocolates do not contain any chemical preservatives or additives. Many chocolates on the market today are designed to withstand a suspiciously long time on the shelf. We wanted to create an ultra-fresh product to be enjoyed while the flavors were at their absolute peak. Just as consumers demand quality when purchasing other fresh foods such as eggs, milk and butter, we hope that after you have tasted a truly fresh confection, you will accept no substitutes.

| How do I store verē chocolate? |
verē chocolate bars, wafers and clusters can be properly stored for at least six months. verē confections such as truffles and brownies are made with fresh ingredients and should be eaten fresh – truffles within a week and brownies within three weeks. All chocolate should ideally be stored in a cool (60-65°F), dry (less than 50% humidity), and odor-free environment away from direct heat and sunlight. To be enjoyed to its fullest, bring chocolate to room temperature and allow to slowly dissolve in your mouth.
